Outaway Cave: Cave

No sunlight reaches into this pitch-dark cave. Only the faint glow of ore will guide you on your way.

The Outaway Cave's cave system unlocks after reaching the second research level of the Shiver Snowfields' nighttime course.

This table showcases the required Research Experience you must accumulate to reach the next level of the course. Upon reaching the next level, you must collect the displayed amount of experience, as experience does not roll over from level to level.

The Outaway Cave offers three alternative paths, and which ones are available to you depends on the selected level. On research level 1, you will automatically follow the regular path, which acts as the de facto main route for this exploration. However, on the second level, you will follow a different way, which is the first alternative route for you to choose upon hitting level 3 and is selectable while passing the Croagunk river.

The second alternative route is only available on research levels 2 and 3, as it requires you to venture into the Giant Crystals chamber. To unlock it, you have to throw an Illumina Orb at the Mawile and two Carbink for a Diancie to appear. Once Diancie is in place, throw an Illumina Orb at her too, to make her sing, which will, in turn, calm a Mawile further up ahead. The now calmed Mawile will allow you to pass further into another section of the lush undergrowth champer.

For the third alternative route, you must stay on the main course and venture towards the Rimstone cave. Upon passing the Croagunk river and entering the cave system up ahead, you will spot a Crobat hanging from the ceiling to your left. Throw an Illumina Orb at it to wake it up and then play the melody or use your scan to trigger a mischievous Gengar into scaring another Crobat ahead of you. Now, following the pathway until the end of the tunnel and entering a gigantic open chamber, you can select an alternative route to get closer to the Rimstone cave's pools.
